MAYNOOTH SYMPOSIUM ON MUSIC AND LITURGY IN THE
MEDIEVAL IRISH CHURCH IN APRIL 2006

This symposium on Saturday 22 April 2006 takes the form of an interdisciplinary encounter on the topic of 'Music and Liturgy of the Medieval Irish Church', organised by Dr Ann Buckley, Department of Music, NUI Maynooth and Rev. Prof. Liam Tracey, Faculty of Theology, St Patrick's College, Maynooth, under the auspices of the Department of Music, NUI Maynooth, and the Faculty of Theology, St Patrick's College Maynooth and in association with the National Centre for Liturgy, Maynooth and the Society for Musicology in Ireland (SMI). Those presenting papers include specialists in musicology, liturgy, theology, church history, architectural history.

The Irish Church is here perceived as an international body. Thus the focus is directed to its legacy not only on the island of Ireland but also, through its missionary engagements, in Britain and in Continental Europe; the cultural contexts within which Irish churchmen and women, and their followers, operated; and their longer-term influence as reflected in surviving sources.

Venue: Department of Music, Logic House, South Campus, Maynooth
