Seminar Series
The Royal Society
of Antiquaries of Ireland, the Institute
of
Archaeologists of Ireland and the
Discovery Programme
Aims
The RSAI, Discovery Programme and
IAI recognised the need for a forum
for debate and research at the highest
level, which is open to professionals
and scholars and the wider public,
working towards inclusiveness both
within and outside the university
environment. It is therefore proposed
to hold regular seminars to explore
specific themes in Irish archaeology
and related disciplines. In order
to challenge and extend accepted thinking
there will be an emphasis on theoretical
approach and cross-disciplinary analysis.
Format
It is envisaged that each seminar
group shall comprise of a Chair, 2-4
guest speakers, who are engaged in
relevant research, an invited panel
of discussion facilitators, including
academics working in related disciplines,
and a wider audience, prepared to
contribute to the general discussion.
The speakers at each session shall
present short papers (20 minutes)
on the chosen theme, in which they
attempt to address strategic research
questions identified by the committee.
The seminars are to take place once
a month.
