'Walking around Medieval Dublin' map launched.LAUNCH OF NEW MAP OF MEDIEVAL DUBLIN

The Archaeological section of Dublin City Council in conjunction with the Friends of Medieval Dublin will hold a reception on Tuesday 27 April 2004 at 18.00 in the crypt of Christ Church cathedral, Christchurch Place, Dublin 8 to mark the publication of a brochure entitled Walks around Medieval Dublin to be launched by Mr John Fitzgerald, Dublin City Manager and Dr Seán Duffy, Chairman of the Friends of Medieval Dublin. All are welcome to attend.

Map of three walks around medieval Dublin.The leaflet has been produced jointly by Dublin City Council and the Friends of Medieval Dublin and is designed to give a friendly and accessible guide to visitors and locals alike who wish to explore medieval Dublin. The text has been expertly written by Dr Howard Clarke, associate professor in the school of history at University College Dublin, Dr Ruth Johnson, city archaeologist and Linzi Simpson, excavating archaeologist with Margaret Gowan & Co. Ltd.

The map features three walks, one based around City Hall, the second around the medieval St Audoen's church and the third around the medieval exhibition Dublinia and Christ Church cathedral. The brochure also features an aerial view of a medieval Dublin, which is a photograph of the scale model of Dublin c.1500, viewed from the south and which is part of the exhibition in the entrance hall in Dublinia.
