LAUNCH
OF NEW MAP OF MEDIEVAL DUBLIN
The Archaeological section
of Dublin City Council in conjunction with
the Friends of Medieval Dublin will hold
a reception on Tuesday
27 April 2004 at 18.00 in the crypt of Christ
Church cathedral, Christchurch Place, Dublin
8 to mark the publication of a brochure
entitled Walks around Medieval Dublin
to be launched by Mr John Fitzgerald, Dublin
City Manager and Dr Seán Duffy, Chairman
of the Friends of Medieval Dublin. All are
welcome to attend.
The
leaflet has been produced jointly by Dublin
City Council and the Friends of Medieval
Dublin and is designed to give a friendly
and accessible guide to visitors and locals
alike who wish to explore medieval Dublin.
The text has been expertly written by Dr
Howard Clarke, associate professor in the
school of history at University College
Dublin, Dr Ruth Johnson, city archaeologist
and Linzi Simpson, excavating archaeologist
with Margaret Gowan & Co. Ltd.
The map features three walks,
one based around City Hall, the second around
the medieval St Audoen's church and the
third around the medieval exhibition Dublinia
and Christ Church cathedral. The brochure
also features an aerial view of a medieval
Dublin, which is a photograph of the scale
model of Dublin c.1500, viewed from
the south and which is part of the exhibition
in the entrance hall in Dublinia.
The map is
available online both here
and on the Dublin
City Council website.
See also the Dublin
City Council press release which gives
details
of the map..
